Each of us has things that we love, and so importantly, these are the things that build us up, nourish us, and make us feel great. I have learned that when we learn to focus on these things, we can loosen our grip on things that don't.
Perhaps like you, a few years ago I started to feel buried under a pile of 'to-do's. For me, it was a demanding academic program that - while it was rewarding in some ways and met some expectations that I had for myself - pushed me into complete imbalance. While I focused almost completely on academic success, I lost my grip on the other things that really matter to me.
I grew up a healthy kid in Manitoba, Canada. But, in my 20s, I found that demands of life could be very pushy and insistant, and had the power to pull me off balance and out of sorts. I pursued a career path that didn't quite suit my passions, and it drained me.
As life's demands increased (don't we all get so "busy"?), I've experimented with many responses and some that didn't serve me well. These are examples:
- Trying to be ultimately in control of my weight and body
- Working harder, faster, and more
- Turning off so-called distractions (like friends and social activities)
